The Brief

NIE Netwoks were investing £341m in Northern Ireland’s electricity network in order to maintain their current service levels. A large portion of this investment was in the maintenance and upgrade of substations in the network. NIE Networks needed a specialist steel fabricator to produce unique steel structures to their exacting design & specification. All structures would need to be CE marked to the required standard.

The Solution

NK proceeded to task their in house team of specialists to commence considered collaboration with the project engineers from NIE Networks. This consultation period followed our well documented design protocol as part of our Factory Production Control System. This ensures all customer requirements, design & development of the project is fully documented from concept through to detailed fabrication drawing approval.

This also includes the maintenance of a fully traceable supply chain, fabrication using best practice techniques and providing quality control with rigorous testing throughout the entire manufacturing process.

NK Steel Fabrication produced a large number of bespoke fabricated steel structures with a hot dipped galvanized finish thus maximising the design life and offering exceptional anti-corrosion properties. The NK team coordinated with NIE Networks’ project engineers to ensure that delivieries of approved structures met with their precise timing requirements.

‘A great combination of quality product and exceptional customer service. The structures were rolled out on time and on budget, hitting all agreed performance targets. NK Steel Fabrication’s project team worked seemlessly with NIE Networks.’
Gerry Stewart, NIE Networks
Design Engineer

The Conclusion

NK are delighted to have fabricated and supplied the bespoke steel structures for NIE Networks. This project marks a great step forward in developing our capabilities in steel fabrication. NK Steel Fabriaction hope to provide many more clients with our exceptional service offer.
